What is the Lawn Doctor service?
The Lawn Doctor provides a year round lawn service offering lawn treatments to fertilise, weed and moss treat domestic lawns.
I have weeds in my lawn, can Lawn Doctor remove them?
A beautiful lawn is a weed free lawn. Your Lawn Doctor operative can apply selective liquid herbicide spray to your lawn to control broadleaf weeds in the grass.

Are the Lawn Doctor representatives qualified and trained?
All our representatives have to successfully complete chemical application training and examination at local horticultural colleges, which is legal requirement. They also undertake further a comprehensive training programme which also includes health and safety issues. |
|
 |
Are the fertilisers hazardous?
No, the fertilizers we use are non-hazardous.
What is the benefit of “slow release” fertilisers?
With our slow release formula, the fertiliser is coated allowing the ingredients to be released over a longer period, normally between 8-12 weeks dependent on weather conditions but you will notice a difference to your lawn within 7-10 days of application (subject to ground temperature). |
|
 |
How soon will I be able to see the fertiliser treatment work?
They will act quite quickly and you should see the benefits within 7-10 days following application. The benefits of the treatment last for between 2-3 months after which time we will carry out the next planned part of the programme.
What is the best advice following weed treatment?
Weed controllers, once applied, need to work down from leaf to root, so we ask that you leave mowing your lawn 3 days before and 3 days after application. Your Lawn Doctor representatives will advice you when that will be taking place.
If the weeds haven't begun to wither within 2-3 weeks, please contact us as weather conditions may alter its effectiveness. Any subsequent mowing clippings (from three cuts) should be used as a mulch after a weed treatment. |

Why do I have moss infestation affecting my lawn?
Moss lives and survives on lawns for a number of reasons such as:
On lawns that are compacted with poor drainage;
On lawns that have a poor coverage of grass;
Lawns laid on infertile, clay or sandy soil.
It is therefore important that you consider a two-pronged attack based around a programme of moss controllers and aeration. The first eradicated the existing moss grwoth; the second helps prevent its immediate return.
Aeration is important as if your lawn becomes compacted (this occurs by the lawn being walked upon and whilst mowing and by natural movement of the sub-soil) and if your lawn is to receive the full benefit of the Lawn Doctor management programmes throughout the year, it will require aerating. |

I have heard of thatch in my lawn, but what is it and how can I eradicate it?
Thatch is another name for debris made up of a fibrous material of grass cuttings. leaves and other organic substances. It builds up naturally when mowing and by natural use of your lawn. Its presence retards growth of your grass by reducing the light and oxygen that healthy grass requires to grow healthily. As it traps moisture on the surface of the grass it will also attract moss.
To remove thatch, a scarifying programme needs to be employed whereby the existing thatch is removed by a heavy-duty machine. To help prevent thatch a programme of aeration, either by solid or hollow-tine spiking is required. This allows air, water and nutrients to where it's most needed.
Solid tining actually forces spikes into the ground (and can in some cases increase compaction) but hollow-tine aeration removes cores of earth. These can be collected afterwards. A top dressing could also be applied with a sand content which allows moisture and nutrients to get to the root of the problem. |
